FRISCO, Texas (Friday, August 15, 2008) – FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock and Marquez Brothers Entertainment today announced that FC Dallas will face Mexico’s popular Club America in an international friendly game on Sunday, September 7 at Pizza Hut Park (4 p.m. CT). The game, sponsored by El Mexicano brand cheeses, will be labeled the “Copa El Mexicano” (El Mexicano Cup).
FC Dallas captain and defender Duilio Davino, who played ten seasons for Club America before joining FCD in January 2008, will face his old team for the first time.
“Without a doubt I’m going to feel odd playing against America,” said Davino. “One of the reasons that I no longer wanted to play in Mexico was so that I wouldn’t have to face them. In saying that, I’m now with FC Dallas and we’re playing them in a friendly, and we hope that it’s a fun event for the public instead of a strong rivalry. It will be good to see many teammates and friends that I left there, and we’ll try to make it a good game so that fans enjoy it and leave happy.”
For FC Dallas, this will be the team’s fifth international friendly of the year, and third against a team from Mexico’s top league. In February, FCD fell to Tigres UANL 2-1 at Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, Mexico. FCD then defeated Brazilian-side Atletico Paranaense twice in March, winning 2-0 at Kyocera Arena in Curitiba, Brazil and then 2-1 at Pizza Hut Park. Finally, FCD lost to Mexico’s Chivas Guadalajara 2-1 on June 29 at Pizza Hut Park.
Ticket prices for the game are as follows: General Admission (Sect 112-132) $33; Sideline West $43; Midfield Club West $53;and Field Seats $153. Tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, August 16 at 11a.m. through all Ticketmaster locations.
The first 4,000 children under 10 years of age presenting a container of El Mexicano brand yogurt or licuado will enter the Copa El Mexicano FREE of charge. Children are to be accompanied by an adult with a general admission ticket. Offer good day of game only at Pizza Hut Park. Doors open at 2 p.m. Parking at Pizza Hut Park is free.
